The Secretarys New Home

Last Sunday GranPa helped us move the secretary out of Greats old house. Here it is in it's new location beside the frount door.
We cleaner out the inside, dusted everything, and then set up some of the things we found inside.
These glasses were inside. We aren't sure who they belonged to.
There were several old papers rolled up inside from 1933-4. They were all the same section of the paper. I guess someone liked the songs and poems. The next three pictures are all of obituaries we found. I love the phrasing in some of the statements.

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

This past Tuesday we went to the High School for the National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony. Will was being inducted along with 34 other students from the 7th through 9th grades. GranMa and GranPa showed up a little before 7 and sat on the back row with us. GranMa had to stand up to see anything. I slipped down front to take pictures.

Doesn't Will look thrilled to be here!
Each student had to sign into the book.
Then they shook the President's hand and received a certificate. The whole thing lasted about 30 minutes. When it was over, GranPa hurried over to the cookie table to beat all the kids. He was successful too!

He also got rookie of the year and made all district cross country. His friends and he enjoyed the evening and had alot of fun. The picture below is of him, the plaque, and his cross country coach, Lesley Austin.

A Trip to Temple

Lynne's parents called yesterday and wanted to meet us in Temple today for lunch. So we loaded up this morning and headed south. We met at the Temple mall and had a great lunch at Fuddruckers. Then we wandered around the mall, found a sale at Dave and Berry's, so we bought some shirts and shoes. After a few hours we said goodbye to Mimi and Papa and headed home. Before we left Temple though we stopped by the Ironhorse District near downtown.
I had seen this loop of track before and always wondered why it was there so we stopped and walked around a bit.
Always a kid!
The tracks appeared to be about 24" gauge. It was spiked to pressure treated 4x4's.

These hand cars were locked up on a siding at one end of the loop. There were four of them. I bet they would be fun to ride around on! Maybe someday we will catch the park open and take a ride. It was getting cold so we loaded up and headed home.

A Bad Snow Video

The news tonight showed a reporter in Corsicana in heavy snowfall. All I had was my cell phone for video but you might see a few flakes.

Andy took this picture at the house.

Finally..Wimberley Christmas Pictures

Better late than never. We went to Fredricksburg on the weekend before Christmas. The girls shopped and the guys wandered around or slept in the truck.
Jesse kept the skies clear of enemy aircraft while we waited on the girls to finish.
I made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in Japan! Actually the last two pictures are at the Admiral Nimitz Museum.
We had a special visitor later while Darin, Nocona, and their kids were there. He made a special stop before his worldwide trek a few days later.
Here are all of Mimi and Papa's grankids with Santa (Little B didn't want to be in the picture so her daddy held her). Unfortunately Papa missed all the excitement because he had gone to the store for supplies.
It's interesting what some people will do to get kids to smile for a picture.
When Papa got back from the store he sat down with Mimi for a picture with all the grankids. This was the best picture I had. They weren't all looking at the camera in any shot.
Christmas morning was foggy and damp. We had a great time on our trip and are looking forward to going back soon.

First Blog of 2008

OK, I got of to a slow start this year. We got through the holidays in Wimberley and Grandview, I lost my camera for a week, survived going back to work and school, and finally downloaded the pictures off my camera. I'll post a couple of the best holiday pictures later. But today when I got home these guys were in our front yard.
Lynne called them "thumper trucks". I don't know the real name but that sounds good. They were for the seismic survey on the property. They made the metal signs on the wall in our bathroom rattle. I'm tired now and going to bed.
