High School Awards Ceremony

We went to the High School gym on Tuesday night for their awards ceremony.Andy, Stu, and Jodie had to stand around and socialize before the event began.
Here are Jodie and Andy accepting one of the scholarships they both received.
Later Andy received his academic rewards.
They also installed the new student government members and gave a gift to the outgoing members.

Local Wildlife

This Phoebe (Eastern?) has been looking at our porch for a couple of weeks. They didn't have enough room for a nest on top of the post, so I helped them out a little. Within the hour they started assembling the nest. We can watch them right out our living room window.
These 2 wild animals are now living on the frount porch. And yes, they are wild. We put up a fake electric fence to keep Chico off that part of the porch. He doesn't know it's not hot.
Then there's this vicious beast. OK, she's not wild, and I think either of the cats could take her easy.

Thursday Night Softball

Since baseball season was over we went to town last Thursday night to watch the softball girls play Aubrey.
It's a different game from baseball. The girls played a good game but not good enough. They ended up losing that game and the Friday night game in Aubrey. So their season is over too.

Area PlayOffs- Game 2

We headed out west of Weatherford last night to the second playoff game in Brock. Lynne and I took the scenic route up 171 and got stuck in traffic jams in Cresson and Weatherford. We did see 2 FWWR locomotives switching cars just outside of Cresson. The ball field wasn't too hard to find (it is a small town). I just followed a car that looked like it knew where it was going.
The two coaches knew each other so they talked before the game.
Our guys were ready to give their best. They knew that this would be another tough game.
It was a beautiful night for baseball. It was slightly overcast at game time so it wasn't unbearably hot. Once the sun set it was a nice night.
Our boys played hard. After 5 innings we were behind by only 1 run, 4-3. But at the bottom of the 6th inning Brock's bats woke up. I think our pitcher just wore out and our backup hurt his knee earlier in the game and couldn't play. They got a lot of hits off him including a grand slam. We couldn't make up the difference in the top of the 7th and ended up losing 12-3.
It was an emotional game, especially for our seniors. Coach Tennison gave an excellent speech to the boys after the game.
It was the last game for Andy (3), Dan (2), and the rest of the seniors. They will remember this season for the rest of their lives.

Area PlayOffs- Game 1

We had the first game of the Area Playoffs in Maypearl on Thursday night. Our opponent was Brock. Brock is ranked in the top 5 in state (#1 in some polls). Maypearl is ranked in the top 40.That's Dan, our catcher. He's one of Andy's buds and also a senior. He has been to our house many times to play Halo or Guitar Hero.
Our pitcher for the night was Matt. That's Dan's little brother. He's our best pitcher in my opinion. He pitched a great game against Brock.
And Andy was ready on second base. Our boys did excellent! I don't think Brock expected the competition they got. After the regulation 7 innings the game was tied 3-3. At the top of the 11th inning Brock scored what would be the winning run. They beat us 4-3 after 3 1/2 hours of play. But I think Brock knows where Maypearl is now.

Spring Band Concert

Tuesday night we went up to the High School for the spring band concert. Will played bells for that show. He's on the far left in the picture below.
He also tried out last week to be in the drum line next year. Of course he made it. He will be playing bass drum in the marching band next year.

Bi-District PlayOffs

OK, that last post about Andy having his last home game wasn't entirely accurate. It was his last regular season game.We played McGregor in a 3 game series. The first game was in Maypearl Friday night. (I forgot my camera) We run ruled them and won 1-11 after 5 innings.
We went to McGregor on Saturday for game 2 and 3 (if necessary). We won the first game 8-3 to take the series and become Bi-District Champs.
Some of the local kids didn't want to pay the admission fee.
It was a good game. We now go on to the Area playoffs. We will be facing Brock, the #1 ranked 2A school in the state. The first game will be Thursday night in Maypearl. Wish us luck.
