Bethlehem Revisited

Saturday night several families from our Sunday School class met in Waxahachie to visit Bethlehem Revisited.  We went into Central Presbyterian Church first to see the quilt they have on display.
The Supper was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper painted 500 years ago on the wall of a Dominican cloister in Milan, Italy.
The work is over 15 feet wide and almost 6 feet high.  It was planned and put together with a Waxahachie dentist, Dr. Don Locke.  Construction time was over 1,200 hours done in a 2 1/2 year period.

This copy was done by piecing 51,816 squares of cotton fabric together with a Singer featherweight sewing machine.  Over 350 different colors were used, many of them hand-dyed.  The squares finished out to 1/2 inch.
The quilts web site is thesupper.net.
Then we went to Bethlehem.  There were camels in the Wise Men's caravan.
King Herod wasn't too happy with what they had to say to him.
We went into the Synagogue later and saw some kids doing their lessons.
Later we saw Mary, Joseph, and the Baby Jesus in the manger.
There were many merchents manning the boothes.  This woman was making baskets.
And Jesse checked out the local livestock.
